Clan Society Plans Piper Memorial Statue
At the recent meeting of the Clan Donnahaidh Society Council in Pitlochry, it was voted to accept an offer from the 51st Highland Division Veterans Association to reproduce the statue of a Highland piper on the Clan site at Bruar.
The statue now stands near Breville in Normandy where the Highland division made its first attack, losing 110 men killed in the two days following D-Day. It will stand in Bruar as a memorial to the Highland Regiments which have recently been disbanded.
The piper is the work of Alan Herriot who also sculpted the Highland Division Monument situated on the North Inch of Perth. The bronze statue is nine feet to the top of the drones and, with a granite base, will measure 15 feet overall. Total cost of erecting the monument has been budgeted at £32,000, which will be borne by the Veterans Association. |

Plans are that the statue will be placed on the grassy area in front of the Clan Centre (as illustrated here), where it will be highly visible to cars passing on the A9.
An inscription on the granite block will commemorate the Highland Regiments and the achievements of the Highland Division.
