Aberfeldy Improved on TAPP 2006
Members of Move2Improve attended the Take a Pride in Perthshire (TAPP) awards which took place in the Salutation Hotel, Perth on Monday 10 September. The group was hoping to improve on its past record...and it did so.
In 2005 the town was placed fourth out of seven in the large village category but slipped back to last position in 2006. However, this year it achieved a creditable third place.
The failure for the town to improve its ratings in 2006 had made the small group sit up and re-think how Aberfeldy could begin to fight back. |

A very vigorous campaign began to try and introduce some colour into the town and in 2006 letters were sent out to the majority of businesses to encourage them to support Move2Improve’s plans.
Chairman W. Leszke reported: “We were aware that our town was looking a bit dull and we needed to inject some colour in the summer months. With the help of some businesses we managed to brighten the streets up with 60 + hanging baskets. It was a big gamble and we knew the success depended on the townsfolk respecting the displays we introduced.
“I am very pleased to be able to thank everyone in Aberfeldy for doing just that. The knock on effect has seen many residents looking after and caring for their own gardens and premises thus adding to the overall impact. This has been recognised with the town securing third place at the awards. Well done everyone”.
‘Flower Power’ 2008
Mr Leszke added: “We need to order our floral displays at the beginning of October so there is not much time to prepare. We have sent out follow-up letters to Aberfeldy businesses asking for others to join our standing order scheme. We also included a stamped addressed envelope to make it easier and quicker to reply. If we get a further increase it will certainly make an impact next year.
“Our ‘Flower Power’ 2008 competitions will also kick off next summer which will give everyone a chance to win one of the coveted trophies. The group also has plans to introduce a display at The Corner House leading in to town. I am sure once the display is sited the majority of Aberfeldy people will realise the significance of it”.
The group also tries to improve other areas throughout Aberfeldy. The chairman recently managed to persuade P&K Council to make some improvements to Aberfeldy Cemetery.
Move2Improve has also been looking for a list of helpers for the 2008 season. Individuals can give their name to any committee members or visit the website www.move2improve.co.uk and fill in the form on line.
