Agricultural Show & Gathering 2007

Preparations are well under way for this year’s event to be held in Victoria Park, Aberfeldy on Friday and Saturday 10/11 August, writes Morag Kennedy.
The committee is busy organising the various aspects of the show and as anticipated, due to the new play area, there will be a new look to the event with marquees, livestock and some trade stances being relocated. However, despite the many rumours, ALL sections will be in the park.
Chairman Brian Smith is very optimistic that this year’s event will be as action-packed as before although there is concern about the reduction in revenue due to there being less space available for stances etc.

Livestock
Already, entries are coming in for the various livestock sections and there is still time to enter (pick up a schedule from the show office at 1 Crieff Road, Aberfeldy or from Pets Etc in Dunkeld Street, Aberfeldy). Schedules for the Horticultural Section are also available from the office or from The Flower Shop in The Square, Aberfeldy, Gatehouse Nursery or Ballinluig Garden Centre.
Many applications have been received for trade stance space which is even more restricted than before. Convenor Roddy Kennedy asks that any local organisation wanting trade space should contact him as soon as possible on 01887 820463 as he is keen to accommodate locals before accepting applications from outwith the area.

Horses & Ponies
All day on Friday local youngsters and the young-at-heart will be busy with their horses and ponies in the ridden classes but one of the most entertaining spectacles of the day has to be the Pet Show which takes place early afternoon. On Saturday, the local farmers and shepherds have their chance to display the best of their livestock and competition will be as keen as ever for the prizes.
The Highland Games begin at 11.00am with the local Highland Dancing Competitions followed at noon by the local Heavyweight events. Afternoon event include piping, more dancing and heavyweight events, pipe band, terrier racing, hill race, children’s races, tug of war, and the Menzies Stone competition.
As always, we are deeply indebted to our main sponsor Dewars World of Whisky who host the Mini-Tattoo on Sunday which completes a spectacular weekend of entertainment in Aberfeldy.
