Winter Collection
There will also be the usual collection of warm clothing, bedding, non-perishable foodstuffs, bric-a-brac and a collection towards transport costs.
The customs leaflets provide information about the Appeal and important instructions about putting your box together and about Gift Aid for Transport Donations.
“This is the ninth year that we, as a community, have supported the Blythswood Care “Shoebox Appeal” and I am really pleased to be heading it up again this year,” Ali Edwards told Comment. “This year there has been a request for boxes to be sent to the needy in India, which is exciting. I have ordered new DVDs of folk receiving the boxes and these will be circulated on request so that we can all be motivated and reassured that our efforts are really making a difference.”
Ali is especially pleased that young people from the Breadalbane Academy Duke of Edinburgh Award Group will again be helping organise this year’s Shoebox Appeal and Winter Collection.
“We are going to spend the day in ASDA in Perth on Saturday 3 November advertising the Appeal, collecting donations and buying budget food items,” she reported.
“These will be sent alongside the shoeboxes to eastern Europe and donated to the needy in Scotland this Christmas-time through Blythswood’s ‘Highland Foodbank’. Donations for this shopping will be gratefully received by me or by the Duke of Edinburgh Volunteers from late September.”
