Parent Council at Breadalbane Academy

The Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006 made changes to the arrangements for parental representation in all schools and a new Parent Council was formed to replace the Breadalbane Academy School Board and Parent Teacher Association.

The new Breadalbane Academy Parent Forum met on 19 June adopted the constitution and elected 15 members to the new Parent Council. It decided that it will meet on every last Tuesday of the month during school terms.
At the first full meeting of the Parent Council a Treasurer was elected and fundraising was discussed. There was a debate on what money was being raised for and it was decided that a sub-group was formed to come up with ideas and the best method of raising funds.

 

The Head Teacher reported that, since the start of the new term, there is a full complement of staff, albeit with a few on sick leave. Last year’s SQA results were discussed and the Council were informed that the Higher/Intermediate overall results were good and the overall Standard Grade results were reasonable.
The new timetable was discussed in detail as was the possibility for Parental Consultation. It was felt that the communications between the school and the parents could be improved and a Communication Group should be established for which parent volunteers are sought.

Other Points Raised
· The Community Garden and the fact the public are unaware of how it is being used.
· The recent signing of the Investment in Learning Contract for the new School and a timetable for the construction of the new school. An information evening will be arranged shortly.
· The follow-through of the HMIe Inspection in November 2007 for which the chairperson of the Parent Council has been invited to send comments.

The next meeting will be on 25 September at 6:30 in the school library and the meetings are open to all parents.
