Awesome Autumn at the Crannog

The Iron Age team at the Scottish Crannog Centre by Kenmore, Loch Tay welcomed October in launching their second ‘Awesome Autumn’ campaign celebrating nature’s splendour and ancient Celtic traditions.

This year’s programme kicked off on the 13th and 14th October with a Faces of the Past workshop and our annual Bracken Festival - all as a natural prelude to our favourite event of the year at Halloween.

Spooks & Sacrifice
The Celtic Samhain Festival runs from 6pm to 8pm on Wednesday the 31October. Friends and families, locals and visitors are invited to join the team for an evening of spiritful fun.

Come dressed in costume, bring a lantern to keep evil at bay and join a short torch-lit procession through loch-side woods.

Watch the wicker ram burn in ceremonial sacrifice and enjoy the carved lantern competition, storytelling and music, apple-ducking, hot soup and snacks, fire shows and more. Local bard Claire Hewitt will use her clarsach to accompany storytelling sessions in the crannog round the logfire, while her son Tam and some of the Crannog Crew provide flame-throwing and fire-swirling entertainment outside. Pre-Booking for the event is essential and entrance is by ticket only.

November
While the spectacular ram burn offers an explosive ending to the regular operating season and tenth anniversary celebrations this year, the Crannog Centre remains open in November on weekends only. Working with other businesses in the area in a local autumn destination marketing campaign, the Crannog Crew is offering special events and demonstrations on three weekends capitalising on Nature’s own seasonality.

From The Wind in the Willows Demonstrations on Sunday, 4 November; their annual Wild Harvest Food & Drink Fair on Sunday, 18 November; to a Brooms and Baskets Bazarre on Sunday, 25 November there promises to be something for all ages and tastes throughout the month.

The Centre then closes on the 26 November and re-opens to the public on the 15th March, 2008.
