Grandtully Youngsters' Bench Project
In October furniture designer/maker Angus Ross presented the children of Grandtully Primary School with a specially-commissioned bench for their playground .
The school received a Scottish Natural Heritage Grant to improve the playground and the children decided they wanted a ‘friendship bench’ in a quiet area. Delighted to be involved, Angus led a design workshop with the children who saw some of their work informing the final design.
Pupils were able to follow the project from beginning to end, with a first group having a trip to the woods to see the oak tree felled by local forestry consultant Rick Worrell, co-owner of Old Castle Wood who donated the tree.

More children then visited the workshop of Angus Ross in Aberfeldy to see the bench being created by Steven Gray one of Angus’s skilled craftsmen, and took a model of the design back to show the school.
The bench was made out of green oak and a traditionally constructed frame pegged with oak, supports a steam bent top rail.
