One World Week Aberfeldy

John Hubert, the Provost of Perth and Kinross had the pleasure of opening the Fair Trade shop set up on Chapel Street to celebrate One World Week in Aberfeldy. Mr Hubert also paid tribute to Aberfeldy as: “Leading the way in fair trade”, this is certainly true as 42 willing volunteers of all ages helped man the shop which sold fair trade chocolate bars to fair trade wall hangings.

“All together now” was this years theme, and they certainly did all work together; keeping the shop open for 10 days, with the total amount of the sales reaching £2253.97, with more money still to come in.

A powerful impact was felt also, by those who watched the award winning documentary “World without Water”, shown by the Heartland Film Society. It shows the effects of unclean water on the lives of those living in Bolivia, Tanzania, India and the USA. The DVD is available for loan from the Aberfeldy Tradecraft Group, if you wish to borrow it you should contact Charlotte Flower on 01887 820 444.

The fun was not however all had by the adults, as the children found out too with the Children’s programme for One World Week. Dough monsters and story telling was available courtesy of Claire Hewitt, and there was almost a full house at the showing of “Happy Feet” at the Locus Centre, trying to suss out who had pilfered all their fish!
