Welsh Choir's Local Fundraiser
Australian-born Bruce Hinch, former personal piper to the late Duke of Atholl and now working as a guide in the Aberfeldy Distillery, played a selection of pipe music. Jimmy Lindsay and his accordion encouraged the audience to take to the floor for some dancing. The evening was hosted by local singer-songwriter and wit, Alan Brown, and a vote of thanks on behalf of Marie Curie Cancer Care was given by Pam McDiarmid. Lou Oppenheim, President of the Aberfeldy & District Gaelic Choir, hailed the evening as a great success all round. “Everyone enjoyed the concert tremendously – the Welsh Choir was very good indeed, and the concert has given us the opportunity to introduce our new conductor to the local community – and she’s a real hit! Plus we made a lot of money for a good cause, and we’ve shown again that the Gaelic language, like the Welsh language, is alive and kicking!” The joint concert was planned by Alan and Jennifer Maggs, whose business “Summerhome” organises Choir fundraising trips to many countries. Membership Appeal Isobel Rutter, who has accepted the invitation from the Choir to continue as Conductor, despite the long commute from Glasgow, used the concert as an opportunity to appeal for new members. Anyone wishing to join the Choir can contact the Secretary on 01887 830315.
