Successes and Activities of Local Young Farmers

At the East Area JAC Conference on 28/29 January in Newtonmore, Aberfeldy & District won the Senior Speechmaking for the fourth year running. James Buchanan, Stewart Kennedy, Vicky Marshall and Kayley Kennedy did an excellent job in getting their views across, and Vicky had the best score for chairman, Kayley the second best for speaker and James and Stewart weren’t far behind.

A quick team change, swapping Stewart for Alison Low in the quiz, brought victory for the team. Good luck to both the quiz and the speechmaking teams at the National Finals in Oban later in February.

Over the past months the Aberfeldy & District JAC syllabus has included a High Ropes Course at Ardeonaig, a Reasons Demonstration, Produce Show preparation meeting, Valuation, Matter of Opinion Night, annual Whist Drive at Camserney and annual Christmas Ball. The Christmas Ball was a great night and was almost fully booked. Full Steam Ahead provided the music and the following trophies were presented:
McKerchar and McNaughton Ltd Memorial cup for junior speechmaking - Kayley Kennedy
Drumglass Perpetual Cup for Senior Speechmaking - Jennifer Butt
Minsups Tankard for junior Stockjudging - Kayley Kennedy
Weem Hotel cup for senior Stockjudging - Jonathon Marshall
Bob Robertson Shield for Annual Valuation - Jonathon & Alexander Marshall
Drumglass Perpetual Cup for Stockjudging and Valuation - Jonathon Marshall
Ladies Points Trophy - Kayley Kennedy
The Kinninmonth Cup for Gent with most points - Alexander Marshall
The club also won the following trophies throughout the year:
Stewart McDiarmid memorial Rosebowl for participation in Perthshire
Perthshire Speechmaking trophy
East District Speechmaking trophy

Panto

Five members took part in the very successful Perthshire Pantomime of Jack and the Beanstalk. Alexander Marshall was Jack with his brother Jonathon playing his mother, Betty. Kayley Kennedy played the rather snooty Amanda Hugandkiss and Vicky Marshall the banker. Stewart Kennedy and Sam Jacobs also helped backstage.
Since the Christmas Ball there has been a Quiz Night, Vice Chairman/Assistant Secretary night, visit to the Panto, Stockjudging and the annual Burns Supper at Moness.

Burns Night

The haggis was piped in by Gordon Barton and addressed by Stewart Kennedy. After the supper, Alan Brown, local entertainer and voice of Heartland, delivered a well-thought-out and funny Immortal Memory followed by Tam O’ Shanter by Roddy Kennedy. Finlay McIntyre proposed a Toast to the Lassies, a subject near to his heart, and a very amusing reply came from Leanne Walker, Ladies Convener of the club. Martin and Drew Kennedy and Donnie Campbell gave a few songs as entertainment. Roger Simpson gave a Toast to Mine Host in rhyme, to which Julie Kilpatrick gave a well thought reply, and a very comprehensive vote of thanks was provided by Alexander Marshall. Club President and Chairman for the night, Martin Kennedy, introduced all the speakers and entertainers in verse.
The Annual General Meeting is on Tuesday 7 March at Moness, 7.30pm for 7.45pm start. All are welcome to go along and show support.
