Groups Twinning for Thrifting
Aberfeldy Hospital Volunteer Drivers and Riding for the Disabled, (Breadalbane & District Group)

These two local volunteer groups are joining forces this year to run the Thrift Shop for the week Sunday 8 to Saturday 14 July.

The offer of shop sharing came from the RDA Group at the suggestion of Cicily Hill, who is a Trustee for the RDA Breadalbane & District Group, and also a volunteer driver.

Hospital Car Scheme
Aberfeldy Hospital Volunteer Car Driving Scheme has been running now for about thirty years and, as a much used service for those who of necessity require help getting to and from medical appointments, needs to keep up with the times and various bits of legislation.

To ensure a sound future it has become advisable to join an association, and Perth & Kinross Community Transport Group (PKCTG) is an obvious parent group. PKCTG has been extremely helpful over the past three years and without the assistance of its Development Officer, the Car Drivers could not have progressed forward in the effective way it has.

To become a member of PKCTG and enjoy all the benefits this would bring, monies have to be raised to pay membership fees and the cost of insurance premiums. The Group is now Constituted and as such has an Organising Committee which is constituted to get the job done.

This Committee, under the Chairmanship of Liz Lines, is very grateful to the Breadalbane & District Riding for the Disabled Group for this initiative.

Any offers of help by offering to assist run the shop, providing raffles and other ‘stuff’ will be very welcome. Contact Cicily Hill on Aberfeldy 820942 or just come along to buy.

Riding for the Disabled
This has been running at Tomtayewan for over ten years now and is a much appreciated addition to the education of pupils with special needs from the local schools. With skilled and thoughtful instruction, riders who require that extra care that RDA offers get the benefit of being outdoors in the fresh air with their peers, enjoy the company of ponies, meet the challenge of team work and are physically challenged in a managed and well planned schedule of riding.

The Group is very fortunate to have regular visits from Lesley Funnell who is a very experienced and respected instructor/therapist and who has encouraged the instructors, helpers and riders to build on their sound foundations.

Volunteering for either, or indeed both, of these Groups is an excellent and much needed way of ‘putting something back’ into life and the community.

For Cars please phone Liz Lines on Aberfeldy (01887) 820787 and RDA Zilly Hoffmann, Strathtay on 01887 840297
