Pitlochry High School Board

From the end of this term, the School Board will wind up and be replaced by a new Parent Council. The last two Board meetings have now been held.
On 24 April, the board discussed, among other things:
• Fundraising by pupils
• Financial strictures imposed on schools by the Education Authority
• The Per Capita Allocation of funds by the school (which was agreed by the Board)
• A questionnaire on Homework strategies
• The proposed new Parent Council

At the final meeting of the Board on 5 June the Board heard that the Rector and Perth & Kinross have together found a means of avoiding the worst potential effects of a finance and staffing situation that at one time seemed likely. The school will now be able to continue with the planned curriculum, and obtain some new equipment.
The staffing complement for the next school year has now been resolved and planning will proceed.
There was discussion about an incident that could have been disastrous – a fire was set in a part of the school while 50 or so were present for pipe band practice. More than £12,000 of damage was caused and several days of inconvenience to lessons resulted.
The school heating system, which has not proved satisfactory since installation, was discussed.
A draft Homework Strategy will be ready for the beginning of the next term.
The Board wishes the new Parent Council every success in encouraging the future involvement of parents in their children’s education.
