Upper Tay Paths Group Latest

Since leaving Highland Perthshire Community Partnership’s umbrella, whose support over our teething stage was appreciated, the Group has become constituted in its own right and has formed an Executive Committee, appointed a Project Officer, Sally Murray, and made considerable progress.

This progress might not be immediately obvious but it is hoped that, before the summer is through, there will indeed be signs and a map of walking routes, all of which will be Community Paths and some Core Paths.

The Group’s first major project was to instigate a route for walkers, cyclists and horse riders on a 6km route between Aberfeldy and Grandtully. This has been achieved due to the generosity of the landowners along its route.

The path starts at the area of waste ground opposite the Distillery and culminates in the canoe parking at Grandtully. This is almost ready for its official opening and has become known as the Riverside/Railway Line Path.

There is no reason why this route should not presently be used, but yit should be noted that part of the route is still settling down after the flood of winter, and there is not yet a complete bridge over the Cultullich Burn; there is, however, a ford a few metres upstream of the laid down foundations.

Funding has been restrictive and the monies that the Group has raised have not been easily won. It will be appreciated that we have done our best and that we are trying to produce maps and routes that are ‘fit for purpose’ not four star ‘motorway’ surfaces.

All routes pass over somebody’s land and that somebody has given the Group permission to follow a given route. So, please enjoy our beautiful bit of Scotland, be responsible, observe the Countryside Code, take away your memories and, please, your litter. You can leave your footprints! We wish you happy walking.
