Local Group Secures Black Watch Monument Re-illumination
The chairman of the local group ‘Move 2 Improve’, William Leske, recounted that the quest for the reinstatement of the 30 year old spotlighting of the Black Watch Monument in Aberfeldy had begun a year previously through the efforts of David Butters.
He was speaking at a gathering on the evening of 4 November to mark this achievement, coupled with the replacement of the commemoration plaque giving a brief outline on the rise of the Black Watch Regiment.
“With tourists from America, Canada and many parts of Europe visiting each year we are pleased and grateful to Perth & Kinross for its help in fulfilling the group’s vision.
This is just as important today as it was in the past, with some members of Aberfeldy youth still in active duty with the Regiment of the Black Watch in some of the troubled places of the world,” said Mr Leske. |

The new plaque was donated by the Black Watch Association and Major Proctor, together with some members of the Black Watch and a piper, attended the lighting up ceremony.
Major Proctor assured everyone that the Association would continue, even in the face of difficult times for the regiment with the amalgamation of Scottish troops.
After the unveiling of the plaque the piper played to close the ceremony and special guests were invited to The Black Watch Inn for refreshments and sandwiches, which were provided with the compliments of the inn’s proprietors.
