Local Tsunami Funding Appeal Dispersement: Rotary Club's Exemplary Outcome

With the proceeds of donations made locally in the Upper Tay area, the Colombo Mid Town Rotary Club has bought and equipped three fishing boats with nets and outboard motors.
The boats have been named Aberfeldy Rotary, The Black Watch and Schiehallion and they will enable twelve fishermen to get back to sea and earn money to support their families. Some Colombo Rotarians are pictured here at the handove of the vessels to the disater smitten community.
In addition to the boats, funds have also been used to provide tools to enable 49 craftsmen to resume work. This gives them the ability to start rebuilding their communities and to support their families and school children.
The Aberfeldy Rotary Club’s lead in working directly with fellow Rotarians in Sri Lanka is certainly catching the imagination. In recent weeks the club has received a number of calls from Rotarians in other parts of Scotland - and in England - seeking to learn from its experience and possibly to replicate the scheme.
